We are looking for an energetic, friendly, kind and positive person to fill the position of Veterinary Technician at our busy animal hospital In the Bronx. A good sense of humor is a must.
-The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
- Preference will be given to a candidate who has worked at a HQHVSN clinic and is comfortable with all aspects of anesthesia.
- The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a leadership position in the clinic. Planning and directing others in a respectful way should come naturally, with the goal of helping direct flow and leveraging skills of different staff members.
-A foreign veterinarian awaiting to take their ECFVG exam will also be given preference.
-The ideal candidate should feel comfortable with the day to day workings of a busy clinic and be comfortable with all stages of administering and monitoring general anesthesia.
Duties:
- Lead anesthesia on surgical cases by calculating drug dosages under the supervision of the Veterinarian, administering anesthetic drugs, IV catheter placement, intubating, monitoring anesthesia, and recovering animals from anesthesia.
- Discharge their anesthesia case by explaining important information to the owner.
- Prepare medication as prescribed by the Veterinarian.
- Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform routine procedures such as safely restraining, administering vaccinations, blood draws, ear cleanings, IV catheter placement and maintenance, and safe administration of oral and injectable medications.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs during sedated procedures and surgeries.
- Prepare animals for surgery, and recover animals from surgery.
- Position animals for radiography.
- Assist with laboratory tests and analysis of samples.
- Provide basic grooming services such as face trims, ear cleaning/plucking and nail trimming.
- Educate pet owners on proper care and treatment of their animals.
Experience:
- Previous experience working as a veterinary technician in a busy clinic with urgent care patients.
- Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common diseases.
- Familiarity with veterinary equipment and tools, including x-ray machines and blood chemistry analyzers.
- Ability to prepare slides and view them under a microscope. Ability to identify ear mites, skin mites (Demodex, Sarcoptes), and interest in learning how to identify yeast, bacteria, and red blood cells under a microscope.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and veterinary staff.
- Ability to handle animals with care and compassion.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
