Patent Litigation Associate Attorney

Locations: Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley, California
Direct Counsel is seeking a Mid-Level Intellectual Property Litigation Associate to join the IP litigation practice of a leading Am Law firm in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with strong patent litigation experience who is interested in handling complex intellectual property disputes in a collaborative and sophisticated practice.
The role offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes patent matters across multiple forums, including federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, and administrative proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Responsibilities
Represent clients in patent litigation matters involving both accused infringers and patent owners
Assist with and manage litigation in U.S. district courts, International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations, and PTAB proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda
Conduct legal research and case analysis to support litigation strategy
Participate in fact and expert discovery, depositions, and trial preparation
Work closely with clients, experts, and technical consultants to analyze complex technologies and develop litigation strategies
Collaborate with attorneys across offices on complex intellectual property disputes
Qualifications
3–5 years of patent litigation experience
Experience representing both patent owners and accused infringers
Experience litigating before U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and/or the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)
Technical background required, preferably a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field
USPTO registration preferred but not required
Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills
Excellent communication and organizational abilities
J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
Active admission to the California State Bar
This position offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range of approximately $250,000–$375,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
