Purpose

Development and coordination of an activities program designed to promote the residents’ active involvement with each other, their families, and the community.

Requirements

This job requires completion of “The Activities Coordinator Program” within eighteen (18) months of employment, or direct supervision and oversight by a person with this certification.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Description
  1. Obtain required certification or provide proof of oversight by certified individual.
  2. Demonstrate involvement with all residents, staff, residents’ families, volunteers, and community resources.
  3. Maintain an updated resident’s interest list, as well as individualized preferences and abilities for each resident.
  4. Complete activities assessments on all new admissions.
  5. Plan 14 hours of scheduled activities weekly, considering the unique needs and interests of all residents within the facility.
  6. Prepare a monthly calendar for planned activities and keep it posted in an easily accessible area, in large print.
  7. Update calendar as needed.
  8. Provide activities for residents that include social, recreational, diversion, intellectual, volunteer, and work-type themes.
  9. Meet with the administrator at least bi-annually to evaluate the activities program and discuss strengths and weaknesses.
  10. Assist residents with transportation related to the activities program.
  11. Plan at least one outing every month.
  12. Take inventory and purchase supplies for activities to operate within the facility’s budget.
  13. Create a monthly budget and expense projection to be submitted with the calendar for approval in the fourth week of the preceding month.
  14. Keep all pertinent receipts for submission to Administrator for review.
  15. Maintain self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
  16. Report and document any accidents/incidents to the Supervisor-In-Charge or activate the chain of command as appropriate.
  17. Work cooperatively with other departments within the facility and relate favorably to persons outside of the facility.
  18. Respect the confidentiality of residents and their medical records.
  19. Uphold the rights of residents and assist residents in understanding these rights, as well as the expectations of the facility.
  20. Assure proper treatment and handling of facility property and utilization of supplies.
  21. Be familiar with the facility policies and procedures, as well as fire safety plans, emergency procedures, and chain-of-command.
  22. Complete job-related training as required by the Administrator.
  23. Perform other related duties as delegated.
