Steelmaking Furnace & Casting Trainee

Is this you?- Ready to learn how an Electric Arc Furnace, Ladle Furnace, Casting Machine, and Refractories all come together?
- Comfortable scanning equipment from a pulpit and calling out potential issues before they become problems?
- Willing to jump in wherever the crew needs you—Ladle Furnace support, crane coordination, minor maintenance, even filling in as a Scrap Crane Operator or Second Helper?
- Committed to safety, documentation, and clean, organized work areas?
- Hands-on cross-training across Furnace, Ladle Furnace, Casting Machine, and Refractories
- Visual checks from the pulpit to spot hazards or equipment issues
- Assist teammates (Ladle Furnace operator, Crane operator, Maintenance) as needed
- Fill in as Scrap Crane Operator and Second Helper when required
- Report unsafe conditions immediately and communicate production concerns clearly
- Complete shift equipment inspection reports without fail
- Carry out tasks from operations support management safely and on time
- Housekeeping: keep your work area orderly and free of hazards
- Troubleshoot using your growing knowledge and team input
- Follow PPE and all safety rules to prevent injuries
- Perform minor/routine repairs without maintenance personnel when appropriate
- Suggest improvements to methods and procedures as part of continuous improvement
- Learn and apply start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
- Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Overtime as required (planned schedules and unplanned emergencies); some overtime will be required
- Exposure to temperature extremes; chemicals; dust, fumes, and mists; uneven walking surfaces; loud noise; elevated work areas; and confined spaces
- Lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and stand for extended periods
- Team orientation, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and good organization
- Dependable attendance and flexibility to meet business needs
- Ability to learn quickly, multitask, and cross-train
- Basic computer skills
- High School Diploma or GED required
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
- You should be proficient in: Crane Operation
- Machines & technologies you’ll use: Overhead Crane
