Responsibilities
- Identify, maintain and troubleshoot PLC’s and PC components and programs using relevant software
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks/activities on controls and devices. PMs include routine battery replacement, routine backups, etc
- Identify and maintain robotics system components
- Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot HMI components
- Identify, maintain, and assist with troubleshooting control network components
- Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot motor controls including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components
- Troubleshoot electrical control circuits and control systems up to and including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems
- Replace components and reconfigure programs or settings as needed to maintain a controlled or validated state
- Locate, review and modify ladder logic within various platforms
- Perform routine and non-routine program backup from various platforms
- Create a library and archive programs for systems and equipment
- Ability to access all levels and areas of the facility
- Apply reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot equipment or system issues
- Ability to interpret drawings- mechanical and electrical
- Ability to train other technicians on controls systems and applications
- Gather data and collect information to support Capital Appropriations Requests. Able to create the documentation and steps necessary to assist with execution of capital projects.
- Knowledge of engineering documentation requirements in a cGMP regulated environment
- Automation software experience with products such FactoryTalk® Batch, FactoryTalk® View Site Edition & FactoryTalk® View Machine Edition and Wonderware is preferred
- Experience with other systems, such as iFix, PI-Historian, Wonderware MES, Siemens SEMATIC S7, APOGEE®, and WinCC would be a plus
- PLC and Motion Control programming, testing, and debugging experience is required
- Electrical design and layout experience including power distribution, I/O devices, sensors, etc.
- Understanding of domestic and international electrical codes (NEC, NFPA79, IEC60204-1)
- Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens products is preferred
Specific Skills
- Demonstrates a high level knowledge in process controls including detailed understanding of the process, ability to optimize the parameters and optimize the measurable outcomes while minimizing risks of hazards
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of P&IDs and instrumentation/control equipment in an industrial environment
- Demonstrates, optimizes and instructs an expert knowledge of the control methods, analog and discrete and the critical components to developing sustainable control algorithms
- Ability to optimize design and implement knowledge of control system architecture including hardware, software, instrumentation and networking equipment
- Programming of Rockwell RSLogix 5000, Allen Bradley MicroLogix / CompactLogix PLC’s , Siemens and Motion Control devices including stepper/servo motors and drives is required
- Ability to be flexible with work priorities and work effectively as part of a team and also in an individual capacity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments with varying priorities in a manner that meets the company's goals
- An excellent technical (engineering) background, with "hands on" experience
- Self-driven to meet objectives/goals within the organization
- Assist with all levels of process and controls improvements from basic wiring/component replacement or upgrades to complete system or controls upgrades
- Perform basic project management tasks
- Support the Change Control Process- equipment or program changes or upgrades through Validation efforts
- Support the Deviation and CAPA processes on site to ensure compliance and process improvement strategies
- Assist Information Technology with holistic control system infrastructure
- Partner with system vendors to design, build, qualify and maintain state of the art systems
Experience
- Must have 3-7+ years of experience in the designing, programming and testing of control and automation systems in a pharma/biotech manufacturing, laboratory, R&D or pilot plant environment
- Proficient experience in implementing control methodology in PLC and HMI platforms with a high level of understanding of various programming languages
- Proficient in loop checking, startup, troubleshooting and commissioning support in an industrial environment
- Proficient ability to understand control philosophy and write functional requirement specifications
- Traditional office environment, with frequent walking to, exposed to external elements of weather, other areas of the facility, including production areas, loading docks, mechanical spaces and warehouse
