We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Auburn, NH. In this role, you will lead the design and development of custom automation equipment and machinery, delivering innovative and manufacturable solutions from concept through production. You will play a critical role in advancing complex mechanical systems within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, leveraging your expertise in materials, design, and hands-on prototyping to drive project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design of complex automation systems, including assemblies, subassemblies, and custom components.

  • Develop innovative solutions using sound engineering principles, balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability.

  • Select appropriate materials based on strength, durability, thermal properties, and application requirements.

  • Create detailed 3D models, drawings, and documentation using CAD software.

  • Oversee and actively participate in prototyping, testing, and validation of designs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with controls engineers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams.

  • Conduct design reviews, tolerance analysis, and failure mode analysis (FMEA).

  • Support transition from prototype to production, including vendor engagement and fabrication oversight.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues in existing systems and implement design improvements.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in automation, robotics, or custom machinery.

  • Strong knowledge of materials (metals, plastics, composites) and their applications in machine design.

  • Demonstrated experience with prototyping methods (machining, 3D printing, fabrication, etc.).

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).

  • Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience designing for assembly, reliability, and serviceability.

  • Hands-on approach with the ability to work in both office and shop environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with motion systems (linear actuators, servo motors, robotics).

  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Knowledge of automation safety standards and machine guarding.

  • Experience working with external vendors and contract manufacturers.
