Position Overview

SMSI is seeking an experienced CAD Technician to join our team. In this role, you will develop and maintain detailed construction drawings, collaborate with engineering and project teams, and support a variety of disciplines throughout the planning and execution of projects.

Please note: This position may require occasional visits to job sites for field verification, measurements, as-built documentation, or project coordination.

Compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Compensation:

$30 - $40 hourly


Responsibilities:
  • Develop and revise detailed construction drawings and technical layouts using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Translate architectural and engineering design intent into accurate, clear, and constructible documents.
  • Coordinate with engineering, design, and project teams to identify and resolve drawing conflicts or discrepancies.
  • Ensure drawings comply with applicable industry codes, standards, project requirements, and company guidelines.
  • Maintain organized drawing sets, revision logs, and project documentation.
  • Assist with field verification, measurements, and as-built documentation as needed.
  • Provide drafting and design support across multiple disciplines, including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, ammonia refrigeration, electrical, fabrication, and Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA).
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support project planning, permitting, coordination, and execution.
  • Review redlines and incorporate revisions accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with estimating drafting and design hours to support accurate project bids and proposals.

Qualifications:
  • 3–5 years of experience as a CAD Technician, preferably within the construction or AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry.
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, detailing practices, and building systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, structural, and electrical plans.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, site layouts, and applicable code requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage priorities and produce accurate work within project deadlines.
  • Must have OSHA 10 certification; wil be required within the first 60 days of employment
