Assistant Public Defender
Job Description
Represents criminal defendants at all stages of criminal prosecution (primarily responsible for trials of cases involving homicides and major sexual offenses); includes:
o Attends court hearings as required;
o Researches complex legal issues;
o Prepares complex pre- and post-trial motions;
o Coordinates and vets expert witnesses as necessary;
o Interviews and prepares Defendants and witnesses for trial testimony;
o Tries cases;
o Prepares and litigates appeals
o Visits regularly county jails and state correctional institutions.
Represents individuals in probation/parole violation hearings, contempt hearings, CYS and termination of parental rights proceedings, and appeals as required.
Sits on Treatment Court Committees and represents clients before Columbia County Treatment Courts.
