Job Description
Position: Under the direction of the Attorney (General Counsel), the Paralegal provides legal, administrative, and technical support to the Office of General Counsel for the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI). This position supports institutional legal operations within a public-sector, state-supported educational environment, including employment matters, Title IX-related support functions, policy development, governance, records management, and regulatory compliance. The Paralegal performs technical and paraprofessional work and does not exercise independent legal judgment or provide legal advice. This is an exempt, 12-month full-time position with a salary range of $50,000.00 - $65,000.00. The job description is available upon request. The job description is available upon request.
Tasks:
· Provide direct paralegal and administrative support to the Attorney (General Counsel).
· Conduct research under attorney direction, including review of statutes, regulations, policies, and case materials.
· Draft, format, proofread, and organize legal documents, correspondence, contracts, memoranda, and policies for attorney review.
· Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential legal files in accordance with institutional records retention schedules.
· Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
Knowledge of paralegal practices, legal terminology, and document preparation standards.
Working knowledge of public-sector operations, administrative processes, and records management.
Familiarity with employment law, higher education law, Title IX frameworks, and public records laws.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
High attention to detail and accuracy in document handling and recordkeeping.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma, or a related field.
Paralegal certification or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a legal, government, or public-sector environment.
Preferred:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.
Experience in higher education, government, or state-supported institutions.
Experience supporting employment law, Title IX compliance functions, or administrative proceedings.
Knowledge of records retention schedules and public records laws.

The New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a state-supported, co-educational institution offering college preparatory education at the high school and junior college levels. With a student body of up to 1,000 cadets, NMMI provides comprehensive academic experience complemented by Junior and Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs.
