Position Summary

The Quality Technician is responsible for supporting New Model, Mid-Model, and Current Model Quality Engineering activities. This role performs inspections, testing, documentation, product sorting, containment activities, and quality audits to ensure products meet Topre America and customer quality standards.


The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams.


Essential Responsibilities

Quality Support & Documentation

  • Support new model and current production quality activities.
  • Receive, stage, unpack, sort, and repack new and mid-model products.
  • Create sort sheets, quality documents, check sheets, and required launch documentation.
  • Maintain accurate sort records and quality tracking documentation.
  • Meet deadlines related to new model and production quality activities.
  • Create and issue Quality Alerts for quality concerns or process issues.
  • Complete customer-required inspection reports accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, and containment activities.

Inspection & Testing

  • Perform quality inspections according to Topre and customer requirements.
  • Inspect parts using measurement equipment including:
    • Digital and Manual Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Height Gauges
    • Scales
    • Taper Gauges
    • Other inspection devices
  • Interpret and understand quality data from CMM, scanning equipment, and other measurement systems.
  • Perform weld quality inspections and testing, including:
    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
    • Hammer Destruct Testing
    • Air Chisel Destruct Testing
    • Cut/Etch Testing
    • Weld Cross-Section Inspections
    • Push-Out Testing of Projection Welded Nuts and Studs
  • Perform microscope inspections of welds to verify specifications.
  • Perform LMI testing and maintain required records.
  • Calibrate inspection tools, gauges, and fixtures according to established procedures.

Production Quality Support

  • Retrieve parts from production assembly cells according to schedule.
  • Verify weld quality meets Topre and customer requirements.
  • Perform containment activities for suspect product.
  • Conduct process audits to ensure procedures and standards are followed.
  • Evaluate quality concerns and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Support implementation of process improvements and mistake-proofing (poka-yoke) initiatives.
  • Assist Quality Engineers and Quality Managers with corrective actions and improvement activities.
  • Provide detailed shift-to-shift communication and daily turnover information.

Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment through 5S practices.
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and work instructions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote teamwork and effective communication throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Quality Assurance or Quality Technician experience.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with inspection tools and measurement equipment.
  • Mechanical knowledge.
  • Process improvement experience.
  • Experience with sorting, containment, and corrective action processes.
  • Knowledge of weld inspection methods.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs.

Computer Skills

Experience with:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft PowerPoint

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous Quality, Manufacturing, Inspection, or related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Stand and walk throughout the work shift.
  • Use hands to handle and inspect parts.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work in a continuous production environment.
  • Occasionally lift and move up to 35 pounds.
  • Perform visual inspections requiring:
    • Close Vision
    • Distance Vision
    • Color Recognition
    • Depth Perception

Work Environment

The employee may be exposed to:

  • Moving mechanical equipment.
  • Manufacturing production areas.
  • Noise requiring additional personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Temperature changes, including heat and cold.
  • Wet or humid conditions.
  • Vibration and electrical equipment.
