BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN
Job Description
A substance abuse technician works as part of a team with a counselor to support the treatment of clients with drug addiction, alcoholism, or other behaviors that interfere with their quality of life. As a substance abuse technician, your responsibilities vary with the program but may include monitoring residents through rehabilitation, administering medications, and transporting patients to other departments within a facility. You may also supervise patients, provide a point of contact with clinical staff, and coordinate treatment plans with other health care professionals. Your goal is to help individuals return to a safe, sober lifestyle. Many substance abuse technicians find employment in outpatient substance abuse centers or family services. The job may be demanding, especially in cases of intervention.
