Responsibilities
- Perform dental prophylaxis, including cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth to prevent oral disease.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs and medical history reviews, ensuring accurate documentation in electronic health records (EHR).
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with infection prevention protocols.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to enhance their understanding of dental health.
- Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and managing medical records securely.
- Support infection control practices by sterilizing dental equipment, following aseptic techniques, and managing healthcare infection prevention protocols.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures.
- Proficiency in dental software systems such as OpenDental and Dentrix for documentation and scheduling.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dental care.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry is preferred, along with familiarity in pediatric dentistry best practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in infection prevention management, including sterilization procedures and aseptic technique.
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction, patient education, and team collaboration.
- Ability to perform dental x-ray procedures safely while maintaining high standards of patient care and comfort.
