Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Specialis II/Buyer to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In this role, you manage end-to-end procurement activities, support production requirements, optimize inventory levels, and contribute to strategic sourcing and cost-reduction initiatives. You work closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure material availability, maintain supply continuity, and drive operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Execute purchasing activities from requisition through delivery, including creation, management, and reconciliation of purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.
- Communicate directly with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials and services.
- Expedite or defer orders as needed to support production schedules and inventory goals.
- Collaborate with buyer/planners and other stakeholders to expedite materials and update the ERP system with accurate delivery dates.
- Assist in inventory optimization initiatives, including forecasting, safety stock management, order quantity analysis, and replenishment planning.
- Support RFQ and RFP processes by gathering quotes, analyzing proposals, and assisting with supplier selection decisions.
- Maintain comprehensive purchasing records, including supplier quotations, pricing information, blanket orders, and supplier correspondence.
- Review and implement engineering change notifications and product revisions that impact purchased materials.
- Partner with operations, engineering, quality, accounting, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth execution of procurement activities.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support continuity of supply, quality, and delivery objectives.
- Identify and pursue cost savings opportunities within the supplier base.
- Track and report key purchasing and supply chain metrics and support action plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Use problem-solving skills to identify issues, analyze data, and implement effective solutions.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and team-based continuous improvement efforts.
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on purchasing and buying experience, including purchase order creation, management, and reconciliation.
- Experience using SAP or another ERP/MRP system.
- Understanding of procurement processes, inventory management principles, and supplier management.
- Experience supporting strategic sourcing, cost-reduction, and inventory optimization initiatives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Ability to expedite orders and manage RFQ and RFP processes.
- Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, adaptability, and ability to learn quickly.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in Oshkosh in a manufacturing environment. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You work closely with operations, engineering, quality, accounting, and supply chain teams and interact regularly with suppliers. The environment is collaborative and fast-paced, with structured training provided and potential for a hybrid schedule over time. You use ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and Teams, and participate in continuous improvement activities that support long-term growth and development.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oshkosh, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
