Position Summary

The Senior Accountant at Discount Tire & Service Centers oversees general accounting operations across the company's multiple corporate-owned entities and physical retail and wholesale locations, with responsibility spanning the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, inventory accounting, monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliations, and the full financial close cycle. This role leads a small accounting team and supports a fast-growing, family-owned retail tire and automotive service organization that has proudly served local communities for more than 50 years.

With a growing network of corporate-owned locations across California and a strategic plan to aggressively expand over the coming years, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in building scalable accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting as the company grows. Reporting directly to the Controller and CFO, the Senior Accountant acts as a key partner to leadership — managing the day-to-day accounting function, reviewing and approving the work of accounting staff, and ensuring financial data is accurate, timely, and aligned with company policy across multiple entities. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with proven leadership ability, and has experience operating in multi-entity or multi-location environments.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leadership & Oversight

  • Supervise, mentor, and review the work of accounting staff, including AP/AR and staff accountant functions
  • Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met across all entities
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies as the company scales
  • Serve as a key point of contact for the Controller and CFO on accounting operations and financial reporting
  • Identify inefficiencies and lead process improvement and systems initiatives across the accounting function

Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and general ledger accounts monthly and resolve complex discrepancies
  • Prepare and review financial reporting packages and support audit requests
  • Partner with operational leadership across departments to research and resolve accounting issues

Inventory

  • Oversee inventory accounting, including cost of goods sold, reconciliations, and physical count processes
  • Investigate and resolve inventory variances and shrinkage trends across locations

Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight

  • Oversee end-to-end accounts payable, including invoice processing, approvals, and weekly check runs
  • Oversee full-cycle accounts receivable, including invoicing, payment posting, and collections
  • Ensure A/P and A/R subsidiary ledgers are reconciled to the general ledger, resolving variances timely
  • Monitor customer accounts for non-payment, delayed payments, and irregularities, and guide escalation as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited school required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including AP/AR responsibility
  • Prior experience supervising or leading accounting staff required
  • Experience working across multiple entities or locations strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and collaboratively across a high volume of retail store locations
  • Strong command of core accounting principles and full-cycle close processes
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP); comfort working with large data sets
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) a strong plus
  • CPA or progress toward CPA a plus, but not required
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently
  • Strong communication and leadership skills — comfortable coaching staff and working cross-functionally
  • Comfortable working directly with senior finance leadership and adapting to evolving reporting needs
  • Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with the Controller and CFO on financial reporting, close activities, and strategic priorities

Compensation

Salary Range: $85,000-$115,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Location: Anaheim, CA (in-office)

Schedule: Monday – Friday
