Staff Accountant (Controller/CFO Growth Track)
Job Description
Staff Accountant (Controller/CFO Growth Track)
Florida | Full-Time | In-Office
We're a privately-held group of companies spanning professional services, technology/SaaS, and consumer-facing marketing, with a growing multi-entity corporate structure and international operations. We're looking for an ambitious accountant who wants more than a job — you want to build real financial expertise inside a genuinely complex, fast-growing business and grow alongside it.
This is a foundational hire, not a seat on an existing team. There is no internal accounting department to join or lean on — you'll be the first dedicated finance hire, working directly with ownership, the leadership team, and outside financial/tax professionals to build the function from where it stands today. If you need a manager sitting next to you to stay productive, this isn't the right fit. If you want the chance to actually build something and be trusted to run with it, it is.
What You'll Do
Day-to-Day
- Own the general ledger across our multi-entity structure — journal entries, account reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable
- Drive month-end and month-close processes across multiple entities on a rolling basis, largely self-directed
- Track and organize intercompany transactions between affiliated companies, including service fees and licensing arrangements
- Prepare supporting schedules, backup documentation, and financial data requests for our outside CPA and tax advisors
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records for each entity
- Identify gaps or inconsistencies in existing records and resolve or escalate them proactively — nobody else is watching for this but you
Strategic Planning & Budgeting
- Work directly with the leadership team on the company's accounting game plan — how the financial function should be structured and run as the company grows
- Lead or support financial budgeting as needed — building forecasts, tracking actuals against plan, and helping leadership understand where the money is going
- Bring the ground-level financial data you're closest to into planning conversations, giving leadership a clearer, timelier picture for decision-making
- This is hands-on exposure to strategic financial planning that most people at this career stage don't get access to for years
Learning & Development
- Work directly alongside outside accounting and tax professionals brought in to reconstruct and clean up historical financial records — since there's no internal team, this outside collaboration is a primary source of technical guidance early on
- Sit in on planning conversations around entity structure, intercompany pricing, and financial reporting
- Take on increasing ownership of specific entities or workstreams as trust builds
- Build fluency in reading financial statements, understanding cash flow across entities, and eventually contributing to financial decision-making — not just recording history
Reporting & Environment
- Reports directly to ownership; works closely with the leadership team on planning and budgeting; coordinates regularly with outside CPA/tax advisors
- No existing internal accounting team — you'll be building processes and systems as much as executing them
- In-Office; some remote work when applicable
- High visibility, no bureaucracy, direct access to decision-makers
What We're Looking For
- Accounting degree required; CPA license or actively pursuing (nearing completion) strongly preferred
- 5+ years of experience
- Public accounting (audit or tax) background, or experience working across multiple entities/clients, a strong plus — this is the background that best predicts success untangling a multi-entity structure independently
- A genuine self-starter — comfortable operating without a built-in team or manager checking in daily; able to organize your own priorities and know when to escalate versus solve something yourself
- Sharp attention to detail and real comfort with ambiguity
- Reliable, low-ego, and coachable — comfortable saying "I don't know yet, let me find out" and following through independently
- Comfortable in a room with leadership discussing budgets and strategy — expected to contribute, not just take notes
- A long-term mindset — evaluating this as a multi-year investment, not a stepping-stone resume line
Additional Licensing & Finance Credentials
- Additional finance, investment, or securities credentials — including Series 65, Series 66, CFA coursework/designation, or similar credentials — are a plus, but are not required
- Experience or demonstrated interest in financial modeling, investment analysis, business valuation, capital allocation, FP&A, banking, or corporate finance is strongly valued
- Candidates interested in developing beyond traditional accounting into broader financial analysis, strategic planning, and business decision-making are especially encouraged to apply
- Support for additional approved professional education, certifications, or credentials relevant to the role may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Why This Role
- You're building the function, not inheriting one — a rare opportunity to shape how financial operations work across a genuinely complex, multi-entity company from the ground up
- Direct strategic exposure — you'll be in the room for accounting game-plan and budgeting conversations with the leadership team, not just entering transactions in isolation
- Direct mentorship exposure, just not from an internal team — regular, hands-on exposure to outside financial and tax professionals
- A growth track, not a script — as you build expertise, take on responsibility, and prove yourself over time, there's a real path toward greater ownership of the financial function — and, as that happens, participation in profit sharing. We're looking for someone to grow with us, not someone chasing a title on a fixed clock.
- Direct access to leadership — no layers between you and the people making decisions
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary $40,000–$60,000, commensurate with experience
- Profit-share opportunities as you take on greater ownership of the financial function over time
- Health insurance, PTO
- Support for CPA exam costs and continuing education (case by case)
