Leavitt Christensen & Co PLLC
Boise, ID, US Full Time

Job Description

Job Description

Position Overview

We are an established CPA firm seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our team in a long-term position.

This position is designed for a tax professional who enjoys public accounting but would also like greater flexibility outside of tax season. The position is full-time during the busy season with substantially reduced hours during the remainder of the year.

This may be an excellent fit for an experienced tax professional who wants to remain in public accounting without maintaining a traditional full-time schedule throughout the entire year.

The successful candidate will have hands-on tax preparation experience and be comfortable working independently while also collaborating with other members of our team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state individual and business income tax returns.
  • Prepare Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S and 1120.
  • Review client information and identify missing or inconsistent information.
  • Perform tax research as necessary.
  • Assist with tax planning and projections.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding tax information and questions.
  • Work efficiently and independently while meeting tax-season deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate workpapers and documentation.
  • Coordinate with partners and other staff regarding client matters.
  • Depending on experience, review tax returns prepared by other staff.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Prior public-accounting tax experience.
  • Experience preparing individual, partnership, S corporation and corporate income tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of federal income taxation.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tax engagements during busy season.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment.

A CPA license or EA designation is preferred but not required. We place significant value on practical tax preparation experience and would consider a strong candidate who does not currently hold a professional license.

Schedule

This position offers an alternative to the traditional year-round public-accounting schedule.

Tax season: Full-time schedule with additional hours as needed to meet filing deadlines.

Off-season: Reduced and flexible part-time schedule.

The position is intended to be a long-term, year-round role, rather than a temporary seasonal tax position.

Compensation

$28–$40 per hour, depending upon:

  • Public-accounting tax experience
  • Complexity of returns the candidate can prepare independently
  • CPA or EA credentials
  • Ability to review tax returns
  • Tax research and planning experience
  • Overall level of independence and responsibility

Why Consider This Position?

This position may be particularly attractive to an experienced tax professional who enjoys public accounting but is looking for greater work-life flexibility outside of tax season.

We offer:

  • Hybrid work arrangement
  • Flexible off-season schedule
  • Reduced hours for much of the year
  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Long-term employment
  • Opportunity to work with a variety of individual and business clients
  • Opportunity for increased responsibility based upon experience
  • 401(k) retirement plan

We are looking for someone who values quality work, professionalism, reliability and a long-term relationship with our firm.
