Staff Accountant - Tax
Job Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented tax specialist to join a public accounting team in Broward County. This position focuses on preparing and supporting a range of tax engagements for individuals and closely held businesses while maintaining accuracy and timely delivery during busy filing periods. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, communicating directly with clients, and partnering with internal tax leadership to keep projects moving efficiently.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare federal and state income tax filings for individuals, S corporations, and partnerships, including the related core return forms.
• Examine client bookkeeping records and tax support schedules to identify inconsistencies, missing items, and areas requiring follow-up.
• Create adjusting entries and assemble year-end workpapers to support accurate reporting and return preparation.
• Develop financial statements and other supporting documents used throughout the tax compliance process.
• Perform tax research and apply current federal and state guidance to ensure filings meet applicable requirements.
• Communicate with clients to gather outstanding documents, clarify financial details, and address tax-related questions.
• Manage multiple engagements at once and prioritize assignments to meet recurring filing deadlines.
• Work closely with the Tax Manager and accounting staff to coordinate deliverables and resolve technical or workflow issues.
• At least 2 years of relevant tax preparation experience, including a minimum of three completed tax seasons.• Hands-on experience preparing individual, S corporation, and partnership tax returns in a public accounting environment.
• Ability to complete a substantial volume of returns with limited supervision while maintaining strong accuracy.
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks and the ability to review client accounting records effectively.
• Familiarity with Forms 1040, 1120S, and 1065.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
• CPA designation or active progress toward certification preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently.
