We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a mission-driven organization in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. This role will oversee core accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, and support timely reporting across multiple areas of the business. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, a disciplined approach to month-end close, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to internal and external partners.


Responsibilities:

• Lead the monthly close process, ensuring journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules are completed accurately and on time.

• Maintain the general ledger and review financial activity to ensure transactions are properly recorded and classified.

• Prepare and reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other key records to support reliable financial reporting.

• Produce financial reports and analyses that help leadership understand operating results and monitor performance.

• Coordinate with external auditors and assist with audit preparation by organizing documentation and responding to information requests.

• Support accounting activities across multiple entities or programs, applying consistent controls and reporting standards where needed.

• Manage accounting work within QuickBooks Online and use Excel to develop schedules, reconciliations, and detailed financial analyses.

• Contribute to grant, nonprofit, real estate, affordable housing, or community development accounting tasks when applicable to the organization’s operations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
• At least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a detail-focused environment.
• Demonstrated success overseeing month-end close and maintaining accurate general ledger activity.
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong knowledge of core accounting principles, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and bank reconciliation.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
• Experience with nonprofit, multi-entity, grant, affordable housing, community development, real estate, audit coordination, or outsourced accounting environments is valued.
