Responsible for managing suppliers and materials with moderate to high complexity and value to support organizational needs. In addition to managing routine purchase orders and resolving supply chain issues, the Buyer II participates in both tactical and strategic tasks and initiatives to contribute to company objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for end to end purchasing process including vendor management, PO creation and management, vendor evaluation.
  • Utilize MRP and inventory management strategies for the procurement of materials, ensuring the best possible material availability for production and service requirements while controlling inventory levels.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with suppliers. Evaluate key performance indicators and collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement and cost-down initiatives.
  • Analyze and prepare reports on purchasing and material data, supplier performance, and other indicators to support department activities
  • Analyze and prepare reports on supplier pricing and market trends. Collaborate with Category Managers in negotiations of costs and terms to achieve company objectives.
  • Act as liaison between supplier, engineering, and quality departments to ensure alignment on part specifications and timely resolution of material issues.
  • Review Engineering Change Orders and coordinate changes with suppliers, ensuring conformance to part qualification procedures. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on approval requirements and phase-in/out of material changes.
  • Work with receiving, warehousing, and accounting teams to review and resolve delivery and invoicing concerns
  • Coordinate with internal and external logistics and brokerage partners to achieve on time delivery of goods while maintaining cost efficiency
  • Communicate regularly with planning and production teams to ensure alignment.

  • Occasional pushing, pulling, and handling of materials.

Travel

Up to 10% local travel required for visiting vendors.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university with a focus in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Must have strong computer skills (Advanced Excel)
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, JDE, AS400
  • 3-5 years materials and vendor management experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with data analytics tools – Tableau, Power BI
  • Supply chain experience with a progressive organization focused on improvements to quality, cost, and delivery
  • Experience with ISO 9000, Kanban and lean manufacturing environment
  • Well-rounded, high-potential individual who understands supply chain and materials management
  • JD Edwards experience a plus
