Certified Medication Technician (CMT) Night Shift Duties:

  • Medication Administration: Safely prepare, administer, and chart medications, specifically including evening and bedtime doses.

  • Protocol & Monitoring: Follow established administration protocols, perform and record accurate vital signs as required, and recognize their significance in drug therapy.

  • Documentation: Record medication administration on the resident's record and report any medication errors or reactions immediately.

  • Controlled Substances: Sign for and maintain access to the controlled schedule drug cabinet as authorized.

  • Reporting: Give and receive shift reports at the start and end of your shift.

CNA Floor Duties & Night Shift Responsibilities:

  • Resident Care & Rounding: Perform rounds every two hours to ensure a safe, clean environment. Conduct checks for toileting and peri-care every two hours, ensuring residents are dry before being placed in bed.

  • Morning Routine: Weigh all residents at 6:00 a.m. as ordered, ensuring weights are obtained prior to breakfast. Strip soiled beds in the morning when assisting residents with getting up.

  • Assistance with Daily Living: Assist licensed nursing staff with routine nursing duties and activities of daily living (ADLs). If a resident refuses to get up, notify the nurse so they can assist in offering the service.

  • Safety & Prevention:

    • Respond to the resident emergency call system promptly; all nursing staff are responsible for answering call lights.

    • Follow fall prevention protocols, including ensuring call lights are within reach and residents are toileted.

    • Ensure residents are toileted before and after all meals.

  • Infection Control & Documentation:

    • Follow standard and transmission-based precautions, including proper glove use and handling soiled linens correctly (do not carry soiled items down halls; use linen bags).

    • Maintain accurate charting and documentation regarding resident care, changes in condition, and skin evaluations.

  • Professional Conduct: Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and respect at all times. Be mindful of noise levels throughout the night and avoid cellphone use in halls or dining areas.
