Nurse Manager – Emergency Department

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: Nights


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead the daily operations of a fast-paced Emergency Department. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while overseeing clinical operations, staff development, resource management, and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and results-driven nursing leader with a strong background in emergency services, proven leadership experience, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Emergency Department.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and facilitate clinical care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Monitor departmental performance and implement strategies to improve patient satisfaction and operational efficiency.


Leadership & Staff Development

  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain high-quality nursing staff.
  • Foster a supportive work environment that encourages professional growth and collaboration.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate staff performance while promoting clinical excellence.
  • Support ongoing education, competency validation, and evidence-based nursing practices.


Operational & Financial Management

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership on strategic planning, departmental initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Manage staffing resources to ensure appropriate coverage and productivity.
  • Utilize clinical, operational, financial, and human resource data to support informed decision-making.
  • Participate in achieving departmental and organizational goals.


Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional practice standards.
  • Promote quality improvement initiatives and integrate evidence-based practices into clinical operations.
  • Support patient safety initiatives and monitor key performance indicators.


Qualifications

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Equivalent education may be considered (Associate Degree in Nursing with an MSN or Bachelor's degree in another field with an MSN)


Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice
  • Compact (eNLC) license accepted where applicable
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Experience


Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of recent nursing experience
  • At least 2 years of hospital-based clinical experience in an Emergency Department or closely related specialty
  • Previous nursing leadership or supervisory experience


Preferred:

  • Experience managing Emergency Department operations, staffing, quality initiatives, and budget performance.
