A 585+ bed Level I Trauma Center in Kansas City is seeking an experienced Emergency Room Manager to lead operations within its main Emergency Department. This highly advanced facility also includes a Primary Stroke Center, Chest Pain Center, Breast Care Center, cardiovascular rehabilitation programs, and comprehensive women’s services including obstetrics and fertility care.

This role is focused on leading a high-acuity emergency department environment where strong clinical leadership, operational discipline, and team development are essential to success.

Position Overview

The Emergency Room Manager provides direct leadership for the main Emergency Department, overseeing clinical, operational, financial, and staff-related functions. This role partners closely with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency care delivery.

A key aspect of this position is maintaining departmental performance within budget while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. The manager also plays an active role in shaping team culture, supporting staff development, and serving as a clinical resource and role model.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring safe and efficient patient care delivery
• Manage staffing, scheduling, recruitment, and retention of ED nursing staff
• Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and hospital policies
• Monitor financial performance and support responsible budget management
• Lead orientation, education, and ongoing professional development for ED staff
• Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and hospital leadership
• Support performance management processes, including coaching, evaluation, and disciplinary actions when needed
• Recommend appropriate staffing levels based on patient volume and acuity
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate Degree required
• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care Emergency Department management experience required
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license from Missouri or compact state required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire
• ENPC or PALS required upon hire
• TNCC or ATCN required within one year of hire
• Specialty certification preferred
