Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Part-Time Elementary After-School Teacher that will help to support The Club, our elementary after-school program. This role involves supervising and engaging children in a safe, supportive, and structured environment during the day. The ideal candidate is flexible, energetic, and passionate about working with children in elementary grades.
This is a part-time position (likely 2:00-5:30pm), with a primary focus on the elementary ages. Additional hours and substitute opportunities are likely for candidates who demonstrate flexibility and strong performance.
What You'll Do
Core Supervision & Safety
- Supervise children at all times in classrooms, playgrounds, and during transitions
- Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment
- Enforce center rules and behavior expectations consistently
- Respond appropriately to minor injuries and report incidents to supervisors
- Follow all childcare licensing and safety regulations
- Assist in implementing daily curriculum and scheduled activities
- Lead or co-lead group activities such as arts & crafts, games, STEM projects, and reading time
- Adapt activities to meet varying age groups and ability levels
- Encourage creativity, participation, and teamwork
- Help set up and clean up materials for activities
- Build positive relationships with children and foster a welcoming environment
- Support children’s social-emotional development and conflict resolution
- Encourage independence, cooperation, and problem-solving skills
- Provide guidance and redirection using positive behavior strategies
- Work closely with co-teachers and staff to coordinate daily plans
- Communicate effectively with team members about schedules, concerns, and needs
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Assist with check-in and check-out procedures
- Help supervise snack/lunch times (including allergy awareness)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of classroom and shared spaces
- Prepare materials for upcoming activities
- Communicate with parents/guardians in a professional and friendly manner
- Share important information about children’s day via ProCare
- Discuss the day with your co-teachers to ensure you are on the same page
- Step into different roles or age groups as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by co-directors
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED required (some college in education or a related field preferred)
- Previous experience working with children (babysitting, camps, tutoring, childcare, etc.)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start date)
- Pass a background check and any required state childcare clearances
- Ability to supervise and engage groups of children
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Patience, reliability, and good judgment
- Ability to manage behavior using positive guidance techniques
- Ability to follow schedules and a curriculum and adapt to changes throughout the day
- Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors
- Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and participating in activities for extended periods
- Availability for the school year
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Willingness to work assigned shifts within program hours
- Flexibility to assist with different age groups or activities as needed
