A prestigious Italian retail organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing the company's accounting and financial reporting functions. This individual will play a key role in managing the monthly close process, maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal controls, and supporting the continued growth of the finance organization.Assistant Controller Responsibilities:
  • Assist in overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by the accounting team.
  • Support the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and investigate significant variances.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Operations teams to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support inventory accounting, inventory reconciliations, and cost analysis activities.
  • Assist with cash management, fixed assets, and lease accounting.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate annual audits and assist with requests from external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiencies.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff while helping build a high-performing finance organization.
  • Assist with NetSuite optimization initiatives, reporting enhancements, and process automation projects.
Assistant Controller Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience within retail, luxury retail, fashion, consumer products, e-commerce, or multi-location environments preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience supporting audits, financial statement preparation, and month-end close activities.
  • Exposure to inventory accounting and retail operations.
  • Experience working within NetSuite ERP is required.
  • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.
