A prestigious Italian retail organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing the company's accounting and financial reporting functions. This individual will play a key role in managing the monthly close process, maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal controls, and supporting the continued growth of the finance organization.Assistant Controller Responsibilities:
- Assist in overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by the accounting team.
- Support the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations and investigate significant variances.
- Partner with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Operations teams to ensure financial accuracy.
- Support inventory accounting, inventory reconciliations, and cost analysis activities.
- Assist with cash management, fixed assets, and lease accounting.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Coordinate annual audits and assist with requests from external auditors and tax advisors.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiencies.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff while helping build a high-performing finance organization.
- Assist with NetSuite optimization initiatives, reporting enhancements, and process automation projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior experience within retail, luxury retail, fashion, consumer products, e-commerce, or multi-location environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience supporting audits, financial statement preparation, and month-end close activities.
- Exposure to inventory accounting and retail operations.
- Experience working within NetSuite ERP is required.
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.
