A day in the role

You start your day preparing workstations, reviewing build instructions, and setting up tools for high-mix, small-format assemblies. As production moves, you’ll transition between fine-pitch soldering, adhesive work, and careful inspections—always balancing quality with schedule demands.

Level I — Core build responsibilities
  • Solder lead wires to terminals and surface-mount device (SMD) pads with precision.
  • Assemble electronic and electro-mechanical parts into subassemblies, cable builds, and finished units.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces before adhesive application to ensure proper bonding.
  • Mix, apply, and cure adhesives and encapsulants for potting and protection.
  • Perform routine upkeep on assembly equipment to keep lines running smoothly.
  • Execute assigned tasks in strict alignment with safety and quality requirements.
Level II — Build depth and quality ownership
  • Read and use schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and layout documents to complete assemblies.
  • Rework printed circuit boards (PCBs) by following detailed rework instructions.
  • Conduct visual inspections to confirm conformance with IPC J-STD-001.
  • Record production and quality data per internal procedures and travelers.
Level III — Technical leadership
  • Interpret comprehensive engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions, and specifications.
  • Create and document standardized procedures for PCB and circuit assembly.
  • Coach and mentor junior assemblers and soldering personnel.
Minimum qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 3+ years of progressively responsible electro-mechanical assembly experience.
  • Certification: J-STD-001 preferred.
Skills you bring
  • Advanced surface-mount and through-hole soldering proficiency.
  • Ability to interpret BOMs, datasheets, work instructions, and technical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of basic electronic components and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with adhesives, potting compounds, and SDS procedures.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-mix production setting.
Physical requirements
  • Frequent handling of small parts, tools, and assembly equipment; fine motor work and grasping.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Vision: close vision, color differentiation, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
