About the Role:

The Treatment and Surgical Vet Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians during medical and surgical procedures to ensure the highest standard of care for animal patients. This position involves preparing animals for surgery, monitoring vital signs during procedures, and assisting with post-operative care and treatments. The technician is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, managing surgical instruments, and administering medications as directed by the veterinarian. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with pet owners to provide updates and instructions regarding their animals' treatment plans. Ultimately, the Treatment and Surgical Vet Technician contributes significantly to the successful recovery and well-being of animals through meticulous care and technical expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in surgical assistance and treatment procedures within a veterinary clinical setting.
  • Strong understanding of animal anatomy, anesthesia protocols, and surgical asepsis.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately under stressful conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of medical record keeping and veterinary software systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with emergency and critical care veterinary medicine.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of animal species beyond common domestic pets.
  • Continuing education in veterinary technology or related fields.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client communication and team collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare animals for surgical procedures by performing pre-operative assessments and administering anesthesia under supervision.
  • Assist veterinarians during surgeries by handling instruments, monitoring patient vitals, and ensuring a sterile environment.
  • Provide post-operative care including wound management, medication administration, and monitoring recovery progress.
  • Maintain and sterilize surgical equipment and treatment areas to comply with health and safety standards.
  • Document patient information accurately and communicate effectively with veterinary staff and pet owners regarding treatment plans and care instructions.
