Position: Design Engineer III
Pay: $55k+ DOE
Location: Tulsa, OK
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Design Engineer III to lead the engineering and production design of shell and tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and related industrial equipment. This senior-level position serves as the technical lead on assigned projects, overseeing engineering calculations, customer communication, fabrication documentation, and cross-functional coordination while mentoring junior engineering staff and ensuring compliance with ASME code requirements.
Responsibilities
• Review customer specifications and project documentation to determine engineering and fabrication requirements
• Serve as the primary technical contact for assigned projects, providing customer support, resolving technical issues, and obtaining design approvals
• Perform and verify complex engineering calculations to ensure accurate, code-compliant designs
• Create preliminary bills of materials (BOMs) for long-lead material procurement
• Coordinate with drafting personnel to develop and complete fabrication drawings
• Review, approve, and revise fabrication drawings to ensure compliance with project specifications and ASME standards
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Welding Engineering, Quality, and Project Management throughout the project lifecycle
• Provide technical support and engineering guidance to production and purchasing teams
• Maintain organized engineering documentation and electronic project files
• Support additional engineering projects by performing calculations, reviewing drawings, and providing technical assistance as needed
• Train and mentor junior engineers and drafters while providing technical leadership and support
• Perform other engineering duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field required, or Associate degree with 10+ years of related industry experience, or 15+ years of directly related industry experience demonstrating progressive engineering responsibility
• Minimum of 10 years of experience designing shell and tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, or similar industrial equipment
• Extensive knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 design, fabrication, and construction requirements
• Strong understanding of welding processes and their application to pressure vessel manufacturing
• Proficiency with RCS or COMPRESS design software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple complex engineering projects
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and engineering problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
