Job Description
We are looking for a skilled Paralegal to support a busy litigation practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is a Contract position with the possibility to go permanent, suited for a candidate with strong insurance defense experience, ideally including medical malpractice and healthcare-related matters. The role requires sound judgment, careful document management, and the ability to coordinate effectively with attorneys, clients, experts, and outside parties in a fast-paced legal environment.
Responsibilities:
• Manage case materials by collecting, organizing, and reviewing records, electronic files, and other evidence to support litigation matters.
• Conduct investigative research, including civil, criminal, and litigation-related background inquiries, and obtain certified or authenticated records when required.
• Prepare materials for discovery production by organizing documents, applying Bates numbering, and redacting privileged or confidential content accurately.
• Support trial readiness through exhibit preparation, subpoena coordination, witness file management, and in-court assistance as needed.
• Analyze medical documentation and billing records to create clear chronologies, summaries, and supporting case materials for attorney review.
• Use legal research tools and electronic resources to locate relevant information efficiently and assist with case development.
• Communicate professionally with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and internal team members to keep matters moving forward.
• Coordinate with retained experts by assisting with credential review, engagement logistics, and ongoing communication throughout the case lifecycle.
• Review vendor billing for accuracy and submit approved invoices promptly for processing while tracking related case expenses.
• At least five years of paralegal experience, with substantial exposure to insurance defense litigation.
• Background supporting medical malpractice, healthcare defense, or other complex civil litigation matters is strongly preferred.
• College degree or completion of a paralegal certificate program from an approved institution.
• Experience with discovery workflows, e-filing, document production, and litigation case management systems.
• Ability to prepare for trial by handling exhibits, subpoenas, witness coordination, and related evidentiary materials.
• Strong capability in reviewing medical records, summarizing findings, and preparing medical chronologies and bill analyses.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple deadlines with professionalism.
• Florida Registered Paralegal status and prior trial experience are preferred.
