Detention Specialist I

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and observant Detention Specialist I to join our team. In this entry-level role, you will maintain the safety, security, and orderly operation of our local detention facility. You will monitor residents' behavior, enforce facility rules, and ensure a secure environment for staff, visitors, and inmates alike. No prior corrections experience is required; comprehensive training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Facility Security: Conduct routine patrols of housing units, secure doors, and monitor surveillance cameras.
• Inmate Supervision: Oversee movements during meals, recreation, visitation, and medical appointments.
• Intake & Release: Assist with booking new arrivals, searching property, and processing releases.
• Rule Enforcement: Enforce facility regulations fairly and document any disciplinary infractions or unusual incidents.
• Inspections: Conduct regular searches of cells and common areas for contraband to ensure safety.
• Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate daily logs, headcount records, and incident reports.
• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Age: Must be at least 21 years of age (or 18, depending on local agency policy).
• Legal: Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with a valid driver's license.
• Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive criminal background check
• Fitness: Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk, and respond quickly to emergency situation.
