Job Summary:
As the Permit Specialist I, II, III, you will ultimately be responsible for identifying permitting requirements, securing permits, and tracking permit approvals to support telecommunications construction and engineering projects. You will coordinate with internal teams, permitting agencies, and customers to ensure permit applications are accurate, complete, and processed in a timely manner. As the Permit Specialist, your customers are permitting agencies, municipalities, telecommunications clients, project teams, and internal stakeholders, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through permit compliance, effective communication, and timely project support.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Work with Project Coordinators to ensure the accuracy and completeness of permit applications
- Research and document permit requirements for municipalities, agencies, and customers within assigned territories
- Secure permits on schedule, track permit status, and resolve issues preventing permit approval
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of permitting processes and workflows to support project timelines
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding permit requirements for both internal teams and external customers
- Work with Permit Coordinators to ensure permit progress is tracked and permit information is updated within company systems
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with permitting agencies and municipal representatives
- Conduct face-to-face meetings with permitting entities when required
- Communicate permit requirements, status updates, and potential delays to project stakeholders
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Valid driver's license preferred
Experience
- 2–5 years of permitting experience within a wireline, wireless, telecommunications engineering, or construction environment
- Experience working with permitting agencies, municipalities, or utility authorities
- Experience supporting telecommunications construction or engineering projects preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and PDF editing software
- Ability to quickly learn new systems, software applications, and databases
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building abilities
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Superior time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced team environment
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues and provide solutions
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and workflows
- Ability to maintain professionalism when working with clients, agencies, and internal stakeholders
- Dedication to delivering exceptional customer service and a "White Glove Service" experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting telecommunications permitting programs
- Experience working directly with municipalities, utility agencies, and regulatory entities
- Knowledge of telecommunications engineering and construction processes
- Experience with permit tracking systems and databases
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to work on a computer and view computer screens for extended periods
- Ability to communicate effectively by phone, video conference, and in person
- Ability to travel locally as business needs require
- Ability to attend meetings with permitting agencies and customers as required
