Mid-Level Litigation Associate – Financial Services
Location: San Francisco, CA
Compensation: $310,000–$390,000

Direct Counsel is seeking a Mid-Level Litigation Associate to join the Financial Services Litigation Practice of a leading Am Law firm in San Francisco. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 4–6 years of sophisticated commercial litigation experience who is interested in representing financial institutions in high-stakes class actions, complex commercial disputes, and securities enforcement matters.

The ideal candidate has experience handling complex litigation from inception through resolution and is comfortable managing significant responsibility in a collaborative, client-focused practice.

Responsibilities
  • Represent banks, financial institutions, and other corporate clients in complex commercial litigation and financial services disputes.
  • Defend clients in consumer class actions, unfair competition claims, fraud actions, securities-related litigation, and other high-exposure matters.
  • Handle all phases of civil litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, trial preparation, and appeals.
  • Draft briefs, dispositive motions, memoranda, discovery requests and responses, and other litigation filings.
  • Develop litigation strategy in collaboration with partners and clients.
  • Manage complex case workstreams while coordinating with litigation teams, experts, and outside vendors.
  • Mentor junior associates and assist in managing case teams as appropriate.
  • Build strong client relationships through responsive, practical, and strategic legal counsel.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
  • 4–6 years of litigation experience at a Top 100 law firm.
  • Significant experience with class actions and complex commercial litigation.
  • Practical experience handling all phases of civil litigation.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior associates is a plus.
  • Judicial clerkship experience is a plus.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, advocacy, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, business professionals, and litigation teams.
  • Active membership in the California Bar.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary of $310,000–$390,000, depending on experience.
