Job Description
Direct Counsel is seeking a National Security & Global Trade Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Washington, DC.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 1-3 years of experience in customs and international trade law to join a nationally recognized National Security & Global Trade practice. The team advises multinational companies on complex U.S. customs laws, import compliance, trade regulations, supply chain strategies, and customs enforcement matters.
ResponsibilitiesAdvise clients on U.S. customs laws and regulations, including tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin, marking requirements, and trade preference programs.
Counsel clients on import compliance programs, supply chain optimization, and tariff mitigation strategies.
Represent clients before U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in binding rulings, protests, audits, prior disclosures, and enforcement actions.
Assist with customs litigation before the U.S. Court of International Trade.
Draft legal memoranda, compliance policies, regulatory submissions, and client advisories.
Monitor developments in customs and international trade regulations and advise clients on evolving compliance requirements.
Participate in business development initiatives and collaborate with multidisciplinary legal teams on complex trade matters.
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
Active membership in the bar of the applicable jurisdiction.
1-3 years of experience in national security, global trade, customs, or import compliance matters.
Experience advising clients on U.S. customs laws and import compliance.
Experience at an Am Law firm, trade boutique, government agency, or in-house legal department is preferred.
Experience interacting with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) or other government agencies is a plus.
Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Salary: $225,000-$260,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
