Direct Counsel is seeking an Environmental Regulatory Associate to join the Environmental & Mass Tort Practice of a leading Am Law firm in Atlanta. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 3–4 years of environmental regulatory experience who is interested in advising clients on complex environmental compliance, enforcement, and regulatory matters involving federal and state environmental laws.
The ideal candidate has experience working with environmental regulatory agencies and counseling clients on environmental compliance across a variety of industries. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated regulatory matters, agency negotiations, and environmental enforcement issues while collaborating with a nationally recognized environmental practice.
Responsibilities- Advise clients on compliance with federal and state environmental laws and regulations.
- Counsel clients on environmental regulatory matters involving air, water, waste, and land resources.
- Represent clients in interactions and negotiations with federal and state environmental agencies.
- Assist with environmental enforcement actions, regulatory investigations, and administrative proceedings.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, regulatory analyses, and other legal documents.
- Support environmental due diligence and regulatory compliance efforts in connection with business operations and transactions.
- Collaborate with attorneys across environmental, litigation, and corporate practices to provide strategic legal solutions.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise clients on emerging environmental compliance obligations.
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
- 3–4 years of environmental regulatory experience at a law firm, government agency, or comparable practice.
- Experience handling matters arising under major federal environmental regulatory programs.
- Former state or federal environmental agency experience is a plus.
- Degree in environmental studies or a related field, or a demonstrated interest in environmental law, is preferred.
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters while working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Active membership in the Georgia Bar.
