Phone Triage Nurse Manager Job Description

The Nurse Manager oversees the daily operations of the nursing staff across all clinic locations. This role ensures quality patient care, adherence to clinical standards, and compliance with organizational policies. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the scheduling and staffing levels of the nursing staff, oversees performance management, and supports new nurse training. The position serves as a bridge between the nursing staff and administration to maintain efficient, safe, and high-quality healthcare delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Supervise, mentor and support all phone triage nurses/MAs across all office locations.
  • Lead bi-monthly All Nurse meetings, create agendas and facilitate discussions on updates, protocols and performance. Share additional updates with nurses as needed.
  • Address employee performance through verbal/written warnings, probation management and termination processes as needed.
  • Document incident reports, policy violations and follow-up actions.
  • Oversee employee attendance, call-ins, and tardiness logs; issue attendance warnings and maintain accurate timekeeping records.
  • Conduct annual reviews for current nurses and 60 and 90 day probationary reviews for new nurses.
  • Participate in HR and Operations committee meetings.
  • Maintain good communication with staff through 8x8 chats.

Hiring and Training

  • Participate in the hiring process for Nurse candidates including resume screening, candidate communication, and in-person interviews.
  • Discuss candidates with HR Supervisor (currently Dr. Straughn) to determine position offers.
  • Assist with training new phone triage nurses and maintain training materials.
  • Ensure nursing staff has logins for other systems, such as Labcorp Link, Neometrics, Children’s and Cook’s portal, HCA.

Scheduling and Staffing

  • Manage the phone triage nurse schedule for all office locations, including Saturday clinics and holiday schedules, ensuring proper coverage and balance across the locations.
  • Adjust schedules as needed for call-ins, provide coverage in other offices when they need support, and communicate schedule changes with the nursing staff.

Nursing Duties

  • Phone triage and clinical boxes- Klara and Athena.
  • Assist with in-office procedures, such as circumcisions, and perform other procedures, such as urine caths and blood draws (not mandatory, but must know the process for in-office blood draws).
  • PR with parents- contact parents that are upset or have provided negative reviews; contact parents when errors have been made.
  • Troubleshoot systems such as Labcorp Link, Flexscan, GoCheckKids, and QB Tech.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license required.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience; pediatric nursing and leadership experience preferred.

Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in clinical workflow management and staff development.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation and practice operations.
  • Skilled in time management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in EMR systems and scheduling platforms.

Work Environment

  • This role operates across all office locations.
  • Requires flexibility to respond to staffing needs, attend meetings, and support staff across locations.
  • On-call for nurse call-ins or other emergencies from 6:00am- 9:00pm daily.
  • Includes Saturday clinic coverage.
  • Works closely with the Clinical Manager (currently Courtney).
