Material Coordinator
Job Description
A Yard Material Handler is responsible for receiving, organizing, maintaining, and distributing materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution (T&D) power lines. This position supports field crews by ensuring the right materials are available, properly stored, and safely loaded for job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments of transmission line materials.
- Organize and maintain inventory of poles, conductors, insulators, transformers, hardware, and construction supplies.
- Load and unload trucks using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Prepare and stage materials for daily field crew assignments.
- Track inventory using manual logs or computerized inventory management systems.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and report shortages or damaged materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard.
- Inspect and maintain material handling equipment.
- Follow company safety regulations.
- Assist with shipping, receiving, and documentation.
Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of warehouse, construction yard, utility, or material handling experience preferred.
- Experience in the electric utility or transmission line industry is an advantage.
Skills
- Knowledge of warehouse/yard operations and inventory control.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and other heavy equipment.
- Basic computer skills for inventory tracking.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
Preferred Certifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain after hire).
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification is beneficial.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor utility yard and warehouse environment.
- Exposure to dust, mud, rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- Occasional overtime, weekends, and emergency storm response may be required.
