Job Summary
The role of School Psychologist/School Psychologist Assistant will develop and provide comprehensive school psychological services to students, families, and schools in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. This broad range of services will meet the academic and mental health needs of students to which they are assigned. The School Psychologist will conduct the psycho-educational evaluations and assessments for students to determine educational needs and eligibility for special education services. The School Psychologist will work with parents, teachers, and other special education professionals to help design an individualized education plan (an IEP) that best fits the child’s situation. Overall, the School Psychologist will provide support and therapeutic services to students with diverse needs as prescribed by Wraparound Experts and the principal of the school. This role is essential in helping students achieve their maximum potential in academic, social, and daily living activities.
The role of Mental Health Consultant for Head Start Akron takes a strengths-based approach in working with Head Start staff members to get a better understanding of children's behavior. They will assist with on-site classroom observations and consultations with staff and teachers, while also providing in-classroom supports. The Mental Health Consultant will also help the staff and families navigate referral processes and help families access outside support services.
Overall, the Mental Health Consultant will provide support services to staff, students, and families with diverse needs. This role is essential in helping students achieve their maximum potential in academic, social, and daily living activities.

Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in School Psychology or Clinical Psychology (or a related psychological field), required.
- Additional Requirement: School Psychologist Assistants must provide a copy of their most recent graduate transcripts during the interview process.
- Ohio Department of Education School Psychology license or Ohio Board of Psychology license, preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, required.
- Pass and maintain a clear FBI and BCI background check, required.
- Successful experience working with children in an academic environment. For the Mental Health Consultant, experience with grades PK-3, preferred.
- Ability to conduct psycho-educational evaluations and assessments, required.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret assessment results and use the results to develop treatment/intervention plans and classroom strategies that are appropriate to the educational goals of the student (and within the student’s least restrictive environment), required.
- Knowledgeable in state and federal special education law.
- Collaborative, constructive team building skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with students, parents, and other staff members.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and use sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
Responsibilities
- Conducts the psycho-educational evaluations and assessments for students to determine educational needs and eligibility for special education services.
- Summarizes and interprets evaluation results and recommendations in written and verbal form in practical and understandable terms.
- Participates in response to intervention team processes and consults with team members.
- When needed, provides counseling services within the scope of training to individuals or groups of students.
- Conduct observations of individual children and classrooms to access behavior, interactions, and overall environment.
- Based on observations, provide detailed reports and recommend strategies to support children's development.
- Conduct developmental, behavioral, and/or social-emotional screenings and assessments for children referred for consultation.
- Maintain detailed records of all social-emotional activities, including levels of engagement and materials used.
- Support teaching staff through consultative services.
- Assist Head Start's Mental Health Coordinator in helping families access services through community mental health agencies.
- Guide staff in applying developmentally appropriate strategies to support children with behavioral and social-emotional needs.
- May serve as a resource to districts and buildings in crisis situations.
- Maintains an adequate system of documentation and record keeping and meets deadlines for meetings, paperwork, and other responsibilities.
- Works closely with other SPED/Related Services professionals
The School Psychologist role is primarily focused on conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, with the majority of responsibilities centered on student testing, assessment, and report writing to support educational planning. The Mental Health Consultant role will assist with on-site classroom observations and consultations with staff and teachers, while also providing in-classroom supports.
