Edgewood Surgical Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in Pre-op/PACU. The Pre-op/PACU RN provides safe, high-quality care to surgical patients before and after anesthesia. In this role, the RN is responsible for patient assessments, preparation for surgery, recovery from anesthesia, pain management and ongoing monitoring to ensure optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced surgical hospital environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments
  • Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, surgical site, and required documentation
  • Review medical history, allergies, medications, labs and diagnostic results
  • Initiate IV access and administer medications per physician order
  • Provide patient and family education regarding the surgical and recovery process
  • Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons and perioperative team members
  • Ensure compliance with surgical safety checklists

PACU/Post-anesthesia Responsibilities
  • Receive patients from the operating room
  • Perform continuous assessment of airway, breathing, circulation, level of consciousness and pain
  • Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythm, oxygenation and surgical sites
  • Manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other anesthesia-related concerns
  • Identify and respond promptly to post-operative complications
  • Administer medications and treatments per order and protocols
  • Provide patient and family education for post-operative care
  • Determine readiness for discharge or transfer
Hours of Work:
  • This position is scheduled for 32-40 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday dayshift hours. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of Pennsylvania
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking and communication skills
Preferred
  • PACU or pre-op nursing experience
  • PALS certification
  • Experience with orthopedic, ophthalmology, or outpatient surgical procedures

Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift and reposition patients
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
