Position:

A Graduating Student Nurse Associate is an ancillary employee who works with Registered Nurse while learning more about roles and responsibilities of nurses. This position requires one weekend a month, one holiday the first and second half of the year, as well as, required to participate in class time at Wayne HealthCare as part of their role.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Active enrollment in the final year of a pre-licensure nursing school degree program for registered nursing (ASN, BSN or Transition to ASN Track)
  • Must maintain satisfactory grades while enrolled in nursing program (C or better).
  • Certification in CPR
  • Basic computer skills
  • Agreement signed for employment time commitment with Human Resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides appropriate patient care, demonstrating knowledge of growth, development, and safety needs for all patient populations at Wayne HealthCare.
  • Assists nursing staff with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and daily care activities while maintaining patient dignity and comfort.
  • Supports clinical staff by accurately obtaining and documenting vital signs, weights, intake and output, and assisting with specimen collection.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse or Charge Nurse to support clinical judgment and patient safety.
  • Assists with pre- and post-operative care, including patient preparation, post-op vital signs, and mobility assistance using proper body mechanics when applicable.
  • Provides comfort measures such as turning and positioning patients, making occupied and unoccupied beds, and ensuring pressure-relief measures are in place.
  • Promotes infection prevention and safety by adhering to hospital policies, following standard precautions, and participating in emergency and safety drills.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, using whiteboards and respectful verbal updates to support care coordination.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies, and a clean work environment while complying with hospital confidentiality, attendance, and dress code policies.
  • Participates in training, education sessions, and quality improvement activities to enhance skills, support patient outcomes, and uphold Wayne HealthCare’s mission.
  • All other duties as assigned
