Field Operations Assistant

Location: Freedom Lab & Community Sites
Schedule: 30 hours per week, Tuesday–Saturday

Position Summary

The Field Operations Assistant supports the operational excellence of The Smile Trust across the Freedom Lab, affiliated garden sites, and community-based events. This role helps ensure that organizational spaces are clean, safe, and welcoming while also supporting off-site programming and community engagement efforts.

The Field Operations Assistant works closely with the Field Operations Director and Freedom Lab Manager to maintain facilities, support garden operations, and assist with event logistics as the organization operates both within and beyond its physical spaces.



Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Grounds Support

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Freedom Lab interior and exterior spaces

Ensure parking lot and surrounding grounds are clean, safe, and free of debris

Monitor property to promote safety and discourage loitering

Assist with routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs

Support upkeep at additional garden or organizational sites as assigned



Garden & Outdoor Operations

Assist with maintenance of the Freedom Lab garden and other affiliated garden sites

Perform watering, planting, weeding, harvesting, and seasonal landscaping
Help maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas

Community & Event Support

Support event setup, breakdown, and logistics both onsite and offsite

Assist with transporting materials, supplies, and equipment to community locations

Represent the organization professionally while working in community spaces

Provide operational support during pop-ups, workshops, or public-facing events

Organizational Support

Carry out assignments from the Field Operations Director and Freedom Lab Manager

Adapt to evolving operational needs as programs expand beyond the Freedom Lab

Contribute to maintaining a welcoming, mission-aligned environment across all spaces



Qualifications

  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safe, welcoming spaces

  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated

  • Ability to take direction and work independently or as part of a team

  • Valid driver’s license preferred

  • Experience in maintenance, landscaping, facilities, or event support preferred



Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work outdoors for extended periods
