BUS DRIVER

Drivers provide curb-to-curb services from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for people ages 60 and older. All buses are ADA compliant, and drivers are certified to operate lifts for wheelchair transports. Customer appointments are made on a first call, first serve basis. Almost 40,000 rides were provided last year.

Job Functions

• Adheres to safety procedures in compliance with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and department policy and procedure at all times
• Inspects vehicles daily while also performing walk-around inspections using the provided tools
• Reports any potential safety and/or mechanical problems to dispatcher
• Complies with all local traffic regulations, as well as reporting any delays or accidents to dispatcher
• Regulates heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort
• Provides curb-to-curb service at all times unless circumstances prevent such
• Maintains a friendly and courteous attitude towards customers and co-workers at all times
• Provides Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transportation in accordance with ADA certification lift procedures
• Bus Driver is to transport passengers over specified routes to local or designated points within Thornton Township and designated facilities outside the township according to time schedule

Qualifications

• All drivers must be 21 years of age
• All drivers must have a minimum C Class CDL license with passenger endorsement
• Possess and maintain a good driving record
• Must successfully complete DOT physical and drug screening both at pre-placement and as necessary
