Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Driver safely and efficiently picks-up, transports, and delivers in-kind donations, equipment, and other materials between USHS sites, businesses, and other assigned locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to the following:
Follow all traffic laws and operate vehicles safely.
Able to operate a medium-duty commercial box truck.
Manage cargo by loading, unloading, and securing items so they do not shift or break during transport.
Plan routes by using GPS and mapping apps to ensure efficiency and the fastest routes.
Utilize and update job status using USHS task/project tracking system.
Assist with maintaining all USHS vehicles in accordance with USHS vehicle policy including regular vehicle inspections and maintenance.
Completing compliance and safety audits as needed.
Maintaining an accurate inventory of USHS materials and supplies.
Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is regularly performed outdoors with exposure to varied temperatures and weather, as well as indoors in temperature-controlled environment. Outdoor work may be on ladders. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Ability to hear and talk clearly in order to give and receive information and instructions.
Stand and sit for long periods of time; move and walk to various locations; climb stairs and ladders, stoop, kneel, reach, pull, push, bend, twist, and lift and/or move objects (up to 60 lbs). Use hands to finger, handle or feel.
Visual acuity and peripheral vision in order to drive vehicles, perform repair work, and work with tools in a safe manner.
Ability to drive a vehicle safely.
May involve exposure to irritating fluids, solids, or atmospheric conditions.
Interact effectively with other employees, clients, vendors, or members of the public.
Ability to multi-task priorities, manage time, perform duties under time constraints, and adapt to changing work demands.
Ability to perform arithmetic operations, gather, analyze, classify information, and transcribe or post data.
High level of concentration and attention to detail for extended periods is required.
Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to act with diplomacy, flexibility, and good judgment while dealing with people from diverse backgrounds.
Proficient with office communication equipment and office machines (telephone, copier, fax machine).
Some computer literacy. Familiarity with Word, email and internet research.
Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Must possess valid California driver's license.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 years in providing facility maintenance, trade work, or equivalent experience.
Experience operating a medium-duty commercial box truck.
Experience working or volunteering in a human services environment desired.
