POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervision of the assigned primary and secondary locations. This position provides Cause-Driven leadership in staff supervision, volunteer management, fiscal management, financial development, membership and program administration, facility & equipment stewardship, community relations and personal-professional development. Directly responsible for growing, managing and leading change of the budget and unit membership of their assigned locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/STRATEGIC PRIORITIES:
Priorities:
- Achieve budget expectations annually
- Meet quarterly and annual outcomes and expectations of the Association Strategic Plan
- Attain the Annual Campaign financial expectations
- Develop and grow the District programs and services in quality and quantity
- Supervision and maintenance (through partnership with Property Team) of two YMCA locations
- The development and leadership of exempt staff leaders
Budget and Financial Performance
- Develops, manages, and monitors center operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Initiates and manages adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations
Program Development and Membership Engagement
- Implements Association membership strategies that support the recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Uses YMCA "listen first" skills to understand and respond to the needs, wants, and interests of members. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction
- Develops long-range plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives. Monitors the achievements of these objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure the achievements of the objectives are of the highest quality programs and services
- Ensures safety, cleanliness and function of all related facilities and equipment
Team Performance Toward Organizational Goals
- Ensures all program operations are consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, accounting and other administrative systems
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops and leads employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Responsible for exempt staff and non-exempt employees
Fundraising
- Provides leadership and is accountable for achieving the Annual Giving Campaign

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong business operations background with a proven track record of producing growth and strong financial management
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Business Management, Business Administration, or equivalent
- Ten or more years of successful management experience, preferably in YMCA or other nonprofit agency in health and wellness field
- Must have previous experience working with diverse populations
- Supervision of full and part-time employees with accountability of annual budgets
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations
- Ability to lead assigned operations including staff development and supervision
- Development and monitoring of budgets, membership and program development, financial marketing and public relations, board and volunteer development
- YMCA Multi Team Leader certification, preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
This position operates in a YMCA center, professional office, and community-based environment and regularly interacts with team members, members, program participants, volunteers, board members, community partners, vendors, and other stakeholders. The role requires regular movement throughout YMCA facilities and program areas, use of a computer and other standard office equipment, prolonged periods of sitting or standing, and the ability to communicate and exchange information effectively. The position may occasionally require lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
This role requires daily onsite leadership, regular travel within the community, and the ability to respond to significant operational needs or emergencies outside of normal business hours. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the assigned location and reside within approximately 30 miles or 45 minutes of the worksite by their start date to meet operational needs.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountable for achieving assigned organizational and center goals as measured through financial and operating results, membership growth and retention, program quality and participation, fundraising performance, safety and compliance, team member development and engagement, member and participant experience, community impact, and supervisor evaluation.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and successful completion and maintenance of applicable position requirements, which may include background screening, driver's license review, CPS screening, drug and/or alcohol testing, or other screenings as required by the position or applicable law.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually
The salary range provided reflects the YMCA of South Hampton Roads’ good-faith determination of the minimum and maximum starting salary for this position.
In addition to base compensation, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees, including an employer-funded retirement contribution equal to 12% of eligible compensation, health and welfare benefits, paid time off, and other YMCA benefits.
