Position Title: Missions and Church Planting Minister

Pay Type: Full Time Salary, Exempt (considered self-employed by IRS)

Reports To: Executive Minister

PURPOSE

To oversee, organize, and implement the church's mission through local, regional, and international missions, with a focus on training indigenous leaders to plant disciple-making churches that plant disciple-making churches and develop sustainable short-term trips.

The Missions and Church Planting Minister has the satisfaction of knowing that they are contributing to the missional discipleship of everyone.

  • Integrate the Church’s Mission Statement into every aspect of Missions and Church Planting.
  • Cultivate a healthy and effective missional culture at Providence.
  • Establish relational and generosity discipleship in every church plant of Providence.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Work in unity with the elders to oversee the church planting and missions ministry of the church.
  • Provide leadership and development of the mission leadership team (Directional Leadership Team or DLT).
  • With the help of the DLT, cultivate and empower a disciple-making and church-planting culture.
  • Train and help execute strategies of multiplication for making disciples through relational discipleship groups. (Participate in one yourself).
  • Cultivate and build a prayer relationship with our missional partners.
  • Understand and promote the church’s philosophy and strategy of missions, centered on planting disciple-making churches that plant disciple-making churches.
  • Equip and empower members of Providence to be unleashed to help plant disciple-making churches.
  • Engage, equip, and empower Providence in equipping Disciple Makers amongst the unreached and less reached around the world in a healthy and effective way.
  • Keep all missions and church planting efforts and projects aligned with the mission and vision of the church.
  • Maintain and plan budgets to align with the mission of the church.
  • Communicate regularly with the elders regarding church planting and mission ideas.
  • Develop a strategy to maintain visibility and champion our partners.

Church Planting

  • Lead the church in supporting new church plants.
  • Identify locations / opportunities for church plans.
  • Identify and oversee assessment and training of church planters.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with church plant leadership.

Local / Regional / International Missions

  • Maintain ongoing communication with our ministry partners.
  • Invest in new partners consistent with our mission.
  • Evaluate and assess partners annually to ensure missional efforts and resources are stewarded well.
  • Establish international and domestic mission trips that focus on planting disciple-making churches and training disciple-making leaders.
  • Leverage mission trips to expose our people to disciple-making in other cultures.
  • Visit potential partners for church planting.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPECTATIONS

A detailed list of expectations may be found in the Providence Employee Policy Manual on Page 9, entitled Providence Staff Statement of Ethics. In addition, the person in this position must:

  • Be supportive of elder leadership.
  • Spend regular time with God in his word and prayer, walk in the Spirit, be sensitive to God’s leadership, and pray for Providence Church.
  • Participate in church staff meetings and other meetings required by the Elders.
  • Have a Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree (or working towards) is PREFERRED.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years previous experience related to this position.
  • Seek personal improvement. Find ways to improve personal productivity. Understand and implement new or better methodologies for accomplishing the church’s mission.
  • Be detailed oriented, flexible, and decisive, with the ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, delegate, build consensus, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; establish effective working relationships with others.
  • An ability to work with a wide variety of people, including those of different generations, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic levels.
  • Documented record of participation in a variety of mission efforts, including domestic and international mission trips.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • High level of motivation and personal accountability.
  • A willingness to learn new tasks and functions.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and effectively lead congregation, staff, and volunteers to embrace a multiplication attitude.
  • Elder and congregation approval required for this position.
