HR Generalist / Office Manager
Job Description
We know the oft ambiguous administration roles can feel overlooked and underappreciated in many small businesses. Not here. We consider this role a massive force multiplier and a key component to everything we do. While our crew is out in the field keeping the world humming, we need a critical person to own the "Command Center" of our Des Moines office.
The Role (In Plain English): This is absolutely NOT a slow-paced, bureaucratic, corporate gig. We don't have separate departments for every tiny task. We need a natural problem solver who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys variety, and likes to tame the chaos. If a software system acts up or an unexpected issue pops up, you don't panic. You just find a common-sense solution. You should genuinely enjoy technology, messing around with new tools, and keeping things organized without someone looking over your shoulder every five minutes.
Youll essentially own theThree Pillars of our office operations:
- People Operations: Lead recruiting and onboarding by posting openings, screening candidates, running background checks, and processing new hire paperwork so our talent gets a flawless start. You'll also be the daily go-to for crew questions regarding benefits, tracking certifications, and training progression.
- Office Admin & Compliance: Keep our infrastructure organized and running legally. This means managing day-to-day office vendors, keeping digital personnel files obsessively neat, and managing workers' compensation and safety compliance tracking.
- Leadership Support: Work closely with leadership to keep calendars aligned, handle travel logistics, coordinate company events, and pick up special administrative projects to keep the executive workflow moving smoothly.
Some Honest Pros:
- Youre Not Just a Number: You will know everyone's name, and everyone will know yours. Your impact isvisible every single day, and you'll never find a team that appreciates your support more than this one.
- Zero Corporate Stuffiness: We value common sense, humility, and a good sense of humor over rigidbureaucracy. We work hard, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.
- Unlimited Opportunity: As we continue to scale, the things you are doing today will eventually evolve intotheir own full-time departments, allowing you to help shape the future of your position.
Some Honest Cons:
- The Landscape Shifts: Because we are growing, things change. If you need a completely static, predictable routine where your day is mapped out 100% in advance, this isn't it.
- You Have to Protect the Fort: Since you are the main anchor for the office, the rest of the team reliesheavily on your consistency to keep the train on the tracks.
- The Multi-Hat Reality: You will be balancing entirely different tasks at once. It requires someone who canseamlessly switch gears without getting stressed out by the mix.
Why Us? We are an established, stable $10 Million company with a team of 100 people out in the field. We offerthe backbone of a solid, regional powerhouse, but with a lean, tight office team where you actually know everyone'sname. Its a place where people enjoy working together and are genuinely excited about the future we're building.
This is a full-time position based out of our Des Moines office.
