Payroll Specialist
Division/Department: Payroll

Reports to: Manager, Payroll Manager

Work Location: Work from home 5 days a week (occasional onsite requested) Open to fully remote or Hybrid if in travel distance of our corporate office

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure new hire paperwork is complete and accurate, process payroll and administer benefits for Abacus sister companies and/or third-party clients.

  • Payroll - Compiles payroll data, enters data, posts wages, and reconciles errors. Prepares payroll system input forms, enters data into payroll system/files, posts to payroll records. Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll. Prepare and issue paychecks
  • Compliance – coordinate, organize, and manage the maintenance of accurate payroll records for all employees. Assists in the documentation and implementation of payroll related policies and procedures.
  • Hiring/Onboarding – perform system administration functions within ADP and/or TalentReef, our online applicant and new hire paperwork system.
  • Field Operations Relations – receives and processes incoming general manager and above calls, emails and faxes as they relate to payroll.
  • Administration/Other – manage the department email inboxes by responding to incoming messages or directing messages to the correct person on the team. Records changes affecting net wages, for example exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments/garnishments for each employee to update master payroll records. Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments. Use systems and tools to create customer requested reports from business partners. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Two years’ experience in Payroll preferred
  • ADP WFN experience a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate well both verbally and in writing, with all employees, management, third party vendors, and maintain confidentiality
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations or labor laws
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Very detail oriented
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word and Excel

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
