Position Purpose
Under general supervision, performs routine labor related to Recreation Department operations and maintenance.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Opens and closes park facilities on a daily schedule, including nights and weekends, and ensures facilities are secure and ready for public use.
- Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, raking leaves, planting and maintaining grass, trees, and shrubs, and maintaining playground and landscaped areas.
- Conducts routine cleaning and upkeep of park grounds and structures, including restrooms, shelters, buildings, equipment, and trash receptacles.
- Removes trash from all parks and transports waste to the landfill.
- Prepares and maintains athletic fields by dragging, marking, and performing seasonal upkeep.
- Operates tractors, mowers, and related equipment, performs minor repairs, and sharpens blades as needed to maintain safe and efficient operation.
- Performs minor construction, repair, and maintenance tasks, including fencing repairs, painting, and basic facility improvements.
- Cleans and maintains the swimming pool and surrounding areas, including seasonal preparation and upkeep.
- Identifies safety hazards in parks and facilities and takes appropriate action to correct or report concerns.
- Performs related duties as required to support overall park operations.
Qualifications
Training and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an equivalent GED certificate.
Special Requirements
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to operate a tractor in mowing and in conjunction with a loader and grader blade.
- Ability to operate light equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, drills, and chain saws.
- Willingness to perform routine manual work for extended periods and under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public.
