Position Summary:

The Port Laborer supports daily port and terminal operations by assisting with cargo handling, site maintenance, and general labor tasks. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-organized work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and able to perform physical work in a fast-paced outdoor setting while collaborating effectively with team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform general cleanup and maintenance of docks, terminal areas, and equipment.
  • Assist with loading and unloading vessels, including staging materials and supporting cargo operations.
  • Operate or assist with light and heavy equipment under supervision.
  • Support maintenance teams with inspection, repair, and upkeep of equipment and terminal infrastructure.
  • Assist with line handling, cargo securing, and vessel preparation for docking and departure.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain organized work areas to support efficient and safe operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support terminal and operational needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in construction, industrial, port, or marine environments.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or ability to obtain.
  • Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots) in operational areas.

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor port and terminal environment with exposure to weather, water, heavy equipment, and active operations.
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented setting with frequent coordination among crews and operators.
  • Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and proximity to water and moving equipment.
  • Flexible schedule required, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on vessel schedules and operational needs.
