Veltri Steel, LLC., located in Taylor, TX, is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Worker/Metal Siding Tradesman to join our team. This full-time role focuses on hands-on sheet metal fabrication, installation, and repair for industrial systems and commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of extensive experience in fabricating complex, high-tolerance components, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring high-quality project completion. The role emphasizes craftsmanship, precision, and safety in a dynamic industrial and construction environment.

Responsibilities:
Material Preparation and Handling:
  • Measure, cut, and fabricate sheet metal siding and insulated metal wall panels to precise specifications using tools like shears, brakes, and panel-cutting equipment.
  • Inspect and verify materials (e.g., metal sheets, insulated panels, trim, and fasteners) for quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Organize and stage materials on-site to ensure efficient workflow and minimize damage.

Installation of Siding and Panels:
  • Install sheet metal siding and insulated metal wall panels on buildings, ensuring proper alignment, levelness, and attachment to structural frameworks.
  • Secure panels using appropriate fasteners (e.g., self-tapping screws, clips) while maintaining weather-tight seals and thermal performance.
  • Install flashing, trim, and corner pieces to complete the building envelope, ensuring aesthetic and functional integration.
  • Align and fasten panels to meet wind load, structural, and insulation requirements.

Structural and Envelope Integration:
  • Coordinate with other trades to ensure proper integration of siding and panels with the building’s structural components, such as steel frames, girts, and purlins.
  • Install vapor barriers, insulation layers, and sealants to enhance the building envelopes’ energy efficiency and weather resistance.
  • Ensure proper drainage and waterproofing details, such as drip edges and gutters, are incorporated during installation.

Tool and Equipment Operation:
  • Operate hand tools (e.g., snips, crimpers, drills) and power tools (e.g., screw guns, nibblers, metal shears) safely and efficiently.
  • Use lifting equipment, such as cranes, hoists, or scissor lifts, to position large panels or heavy materials at height.
  • Maintain and inspect tools and equipment to ensure safe operation and prevent downtime.

Blueprint and Specification Adherence:
  • Read and interpret architectural and shop drawings, specifications, and installation manuals to ensure compliance with design and engineering requirements.
  • Verify measurements and panel layouts on-site to match project plans, adjusting as needed for field conditions.
  • Identify and report discrepancies between plans and site conditions to supervisors or project managers.

Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow OSHA and site-specific safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like harnesses, gloves, and hard hats.
  • Participate in safety training for working at heights, handling sharp materials, and operating heavy equipment.
  • Ensure installations meet building codes, manufacturer guidelines, and industry standards (e.g., AISI, MBMA).

Quality Control and Finishing:
  • Inspect completed installations for alignment, secure fastening, and weather-tightness, correcting any defects or misalignments.
  • Clean and touch up panels to remove smudges, scratches, or debris, ensuring a professional appearance.
  • Perform field repairs or modifications to panels or siding as needed to address damage or design changes.

Team Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with other craft laborers, foremen, and project managers to coordinate tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, or material needs to supervisors to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Assist in training or mentoring less experienced crew members on proper installation techniques.

Site Maintenance and Cleanup:
  • Keep work areas clean and free of debris to maintain a safe and organized job site.
  • Properly dispose of or recycle scrap metal, packaging, and other waste materials.
  • Secure tools, equipment, and materials at the end of shifts to prevent theft or damage.

Additional Considerations for Hiring:
  • Skills and Qualifications: Look for candidates with experience in metal building construction, familiarity with tools like brake presses or panel roll-formers, and knowledge of insulated metal panel systems (e.g., Kingspan, Metl-Span). Certifications in OSHA 10/30, rigging, or aerial lift operation are a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: The role requires lifting heavy materials (50+ lbs), working at heights, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory per Veltri Steel, LLC's employment practices and policies.

Fabrication and Installation:
  • Fabricate and install sheet metal for commercial and industrial systems and other structural components of various shapes and sizes, including complex, unique, and one-of-a-kind parts, per blueprints, drawings, work instructions, or specifications.
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, and buff parts using hand and power tools.
  • Perform sheet metal fabrication, assembly and installation on maintenance and construction projects.
  • Perform layout and fabrication of Sheetmetal and building components, using mechanical fasteners or welding.
  • Performs a variety of Sheetmetal fabrications for building envelope systems such as Kingspan and building components using a variety of Sheetmetal forming tools and equipment.
  • May be required to assist with insulation projects. Spray foam installation.
  • Accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved.
  • Advise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.
  • Accomplish tasking working from job plans, verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring. diagrams, documents, vendor/manufacturer manuals, and applicable specifications and codes.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and create or revise SOPs as needed.
  • Use solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problems.
  • Proactively identify any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicate them effectively.
  • Work directly with others to plan and complete tasks.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot sheet metal machinery and tools, including press brakes, shears, rollers, flame cutters, drill presses, hammers, punches, and ground support equipment.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and production areas to ensure functionality and cleanliness.

Quality Control and Troubleshooting:
  • Use precision measurement tools to fabricate and inspect parts, ensuring conformance to high-tolerance standards and specifications.
  • Apply analytic techniques and technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve fit, finish deviations, and other fabrication issues.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure all work meets company and inspection standards.

Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment, adhering to OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Follow safety procedures and protocols in manufacturing and construction settings.

Documentation and Identification:
  • Follow procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures, complete relevant checklists.
  • Mark parts for identification as required.

Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the project team to ensure proper installation and system functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and repair any systems as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:
Technical Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, engineering designs, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and Engineering Change Orders.
  • Expertise in operating sheet metal tools and machinery (e.g., shears, rollers, flame cutters, drill presses, press brakes).
  • Strong mathematical and engineering skills for precise measurements and fabrication.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot fabrication issues using analytic techniques.

General Skills:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of extensive experience in sheet metal fabrication and installation, preferably in commercial construction projects.
  • Experience fabricating stainless steel, aluminum, assorted plastics, and complex, high-tolerance components.

Minimum Physical Requirements:
  • Must have a VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE or STATE ID.
  • Must PASS BACKGROUND CHECK - No Felonies or Misdemeanor Classes A and B.
  • Must PASS DRUG SCREEN.
  • Must either have OSHA 10 or 30 Certificate or Certificate of Completion or is willing to go through the class right away.
  • Must have WORK AUTHORIZATION in US.
  • Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy, and hazardous areas.
  • Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces, and/or other adverse locations.
  • Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
  • Work in all types of weather.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all trade materials and tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
  • And/Or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • And/Or greater than negligible up to 22 pounds of force to move objects constantly.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment requiring awkward stances (stooping, twisting, reaching) for 8-10 hours daily.

Working Hours:
  • Full-time (e.g., Monday-Friday). On occasion, working some weekends.
