CERTIFIED TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION:



Certified Teachers work under the direct supervision of a Lead Teacher and take on responsibility for leading the group when the Lead Teacher is out of the classroom. They are responsible for working with the team to implement educationally enriched programs, which are appropriate to the developmental needs of the children they serve. Teachers help children explore their interests, develop their talents and independence, instill self-esteem, help build children's identity, and learn how to get along with others in a biblical worldview. Teachers must be reliable, enthusiastic, and constantly alert.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Provide instructional support for classroom lead teacher and assist in preparing various classroom materials and direct the activities of the children in the absence of the lead teacher.
  • May delegate responsibilities to the assistants in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Complete stocking of classroom supplies and materials needed for curriculum planned by Lead Teacher.
  • Assist the lead teacher in classroom organization, cleaning, and safety checks. Assist in the closing of the classroom and playground.
  • Uphold the written Regulations for Large Group Child Care from the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and written personnel policies of Uptons Little Saints Christian Preschool LLC.
  • Maintain professionalism in appearance and in written and verbal communication, with parents, staff, and the community set forth in this handbook.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development; identify learning needs and develop plan to enhance professional development; maintain own training requirements
  • Participate in the classroom by working with small groups of children as directed. Must use positive vocabulary and actively engage with the children. Sitting with the children as they play and moving to other areas in order to maintain a safe/engaging environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to follow teacher's directions.
  • Share basic duties with team members such as diapering, basic childcare tasks, general housekeeping, nap time supervision, set up and clean up. Stock supplies and assist in keeping classroom equipment in order.
  • Become familiar with and able to implement all policies regarding health, safety, and record keeping.
  • Maintain and assure that children's records are objective, accurate, updated and remain confidential.
  • Act as a resource for families regarding child development issues in conjunction with supervising director. Teachers will participate in informal meetings and parent conferences to discuss each child's progress and needs when requested and/or needed.
  • Complete Developmental Checklists on children as needed following EEC regulations. Keep records of each child's progress through bi-yearly assessments.
  • Communicate with parents in a positive and respectful way to provide information about their child's day.
  • Attend Staff meetings as scheduled
  • Assure that children's records remain confidential.
  • Advise the Director of equipment/maintenance needs. Assure all equipment and supplies are replenished, safe and in good working order.
  • Maintain positive communication and actions with parents, co-workers and the community which aligns with the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Holds Department of Early Education and Care Teacher Certification, maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification, must be able to lift 35 lbs., and move freely from sitting on floor to standing. Must be able to stand or sit for extended amounts of time when required during outside time/ activity time.
