About the Role:
The FM-OB Physician plays a critical role in providing comprehensive healthcare to patients at our rural health clinic in Athens, Texas, with a focus on both family medicine and obstetrics.
This position involves managing a wide range of medical conditions across all ages while delivering prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care to expectant mothers. The physician will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care that promotes health and well-being for individuals and families in the community. Responsibilities include performing deliveries, managing obstetric complications, and providing counseling on reproductive health and preventive care. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to a rural and underserved population while improving health outcomes across the lifespan.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine with added qualification or certification in Obstetrics.
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the United States.
- Demonstrated experience in both family medicine and obstetric care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics & Neonatal resuscitation program
Current or committed to acquire unrestricted Texas license (TSBME) and unrestricted DPS and DEA licenses
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a hospital or outpatient clinic setting with diverse patient populations.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and telemedicine platforms.
- Strong background in patient education and community health initiatives.
- Multilingual abilities to effectively communicate with diverse patient groups.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive family medicine care including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic illnesses.
- Deliver obstetric care including prenatal visits, labor and delivery management, and postpartum follow-up.
- Collaborate with nurses, midwives, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and reproductive health options.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education to stay current with best practices.
Skills:
The FM-OB Physician utilizes clinical skills daily to diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of medical conditions while providing obstetric care. Effective communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans. Procedural skills are applied during deliveries and other obstetric interventions to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes. Time management and organizational skills are critical for balancing the demands of family medicine and obstetrics in a fast-paced clinical environment. Additionally, proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth technologies supports efficient documentation and expands access to care.

Family Circle of Care is a health center that operates seven medical clinics, one dental clinic, and a mobile medical clinic serving the East Texas cities of Tyler, Athens, and Jacksonville and surrounding communities. We provide Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Mental Health Services, Dental Services, and Social Services and Resource Assistance, and have been the leading community health center (also known as a Federally Qualified Health Center or FQHC) in our service area since 2013.
